Vatican under fire from Israel over deal with Palestine

vatican
The Vatican has come under fire from Israel after signing a historic first accord with Palestine that called for “courageous decisions” to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The historic accord signed on Friday covers the activities of the Church in the parts of the Holy Land under Palestinian control, is the first agreement since the Vatican recognised Palestine as a state in February 2013 and drew immediate response from Israel.
“This hasty step damages the prospects for advancing a peace agreement, and harms the international effort to convince the Palestinian Authority to return to direct negotiations with Israel,” Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said.
The product of 15 years of discussions, the agreement between Palestine and the Vatican was finalised in principle last month despite Israel’s opposition to both the symbolism of Palestine signing international accords and the specific content of the agreement.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Al-Malki said at Friday’s signing ceremony that it would “not have been possible without the blessing of his Holiness Pope Francis for our efforts to reach it”.
The minister said the “historic” accord enshrined Palestine’s special status as the birthplace of Christianity and the cradle of the monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism).
Paul Gallagher, the British archbishop who is the Vatican’s de facto foreign minister, signed the accord on behalf of the Holy See in the presence of guests including Vera Baboun, the mayor of Bethlehem, the Palestinian town considered to be the birthplace of Jesus.
Ending the conflict
Gallagher said the accord’s provisions to ensure the rights of Christians should serve as a model for other Arab and Muslim states in their relations with Christian minorities facing increasing persecution in the Middle East.
He said it was “indicative of the progress made by the Palestinian Authority in recent years, and above all of the level of international support (for recognition)”.
“In this context, it is my hope that the present agreement may in some way be a stimulus to bringing a definitive end to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which continues to cause suffering for both Parties.
“I also hope that the much desired two-State solution may become a reality as soon as possible. The peace process can move forward only if it is directly negotiated between the parties, with the support of the international community,” Gallagher said.
“This certainly requires courageous decisions, but it will also offer a major contribution to peace and stability in the region.”The Palestinian Authority considers the Vatican one of 136 states to have recognised Palestine’s sovereign status.
The Vatican has had diplomatic relations with Israel since 1993 but has yet to conclude an accord on the Church’s rights in the Jewish state which has been under discussion since 1999, with issues related to the status of Jerusalem proving hard to overcome.
Nahshon said the Vatican-Palestinian accord contained “one sided texts” which “ignore the historic rights of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel and to the places holy to Judaism in Jerusalem”.
He added: “Israel will study the agreement in detail, and its implications for future cooperation between Israel and the Vatican.”

Pregnant Woman Expecting Pig Baby Claims Boar Raped Her.Meet Angie Houston and her now late pig baby daddy. The woman expecting to give birth to a big baby anytime from now told an online news outlet that a 400lb wild pig (boar) named Pete (pictured above) raped her few months ago after she returned from a night of playing miniature golf
Angie Houston recently told Ellis County News that she expects to give birth to a baby pig.
“People think I’m crazy and need mental help because of my story,” Houston said. “They ask how’d the pig get my panties off to mount me? I wasn’t wearing any panties is how! This pig been hot for me for years. Constantly sniffing at my genitals. He’s tried to rape me a hundred times. This is just the first time he successfully got inside me.”
Angie’s parents are supporting her claims.
“Angie knows she can’t have sex until she’s married and she promises she hasn’t,” her father, Don Houston, said. “Pete’s always been an ornery pig, so it’s not surprising he raped our daughter. After this incident, I butchered Pete out. The bacon I made him into is helping feed Angela and her baby; after all, she’s eating for two now and needs a lot of extra meat.”
Angie has refused to see an obstetrician to check her and the baby’s health or get a sonogram to see what the potential “pig baby” might look like.
“I just want to wait and be surprised by what my baby looks like,” Angie said. “My hope is that that it’s not a mutant pig of some kind and it just comes out looking like a normal human baby, which I feel, will be the case.

Monday Ubani SAYS– “Nigeria Is In Trouble With Saraki As Senate President”

Nigeria Is In Trouble With Saraki As Senate President” – Ex-NBA Chairman, Monday Ubani Laments. There seems to be no let-up on the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The naming of principal officers for the Eighth Senate has added salt to the party’s wound. By refusing to honour the party’s position, Dr. Bukola Saraki has re-enacted the controversy that threw him up as Senate President on June 9.
Rather than read the letter written to the Senate by APC’s National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on the floor of the Upper Chamber on Wednesday, he ruled Senator Gbenga Ashafa, who brought up a motion on the matter, out of order.
The letter spelt out the party’s position and its choice candidates for principal offices in the Senate.
In it are the names of senators Ahmed Lawan (Northeast, Majority Leader); George Akume (Northcentral, Deputy Majority Leader); Prof. Sola Adeyeye (Southwest Chief Whip) and Abu Ibrahim (Northwest, Deputy Chief Whip).
A similar letter to House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara, listed the names of preferred candidates for the principal offices in the lower legislative chamber. They are: Femi Gbajabiamila (House Leader), Southwest; Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Deputy House Leader), Northwest; M.T. Monguno (Chief Whip), Northeast and Pally Iriase (Deputy Chief Whip), Southsouth.
Saraki directed the caucuses in the senate to meet and submit their nominees for the principal offices. He discountenanced the chairman’s letter conveying the party position.
Before adjourning yesterday till July 21, Saraki named the principal officers.
Constitutional lawyer Prof Itse Sagay, (SAN), described Saraki’s defiance as a rebellion against the party.
“It is a rebellion against the process that brought him to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly. It is the height of indiscipline that could lead to party’s collapse if care is not taken,” he said
Sagay went on: “The leadership of the APC should take the bull by the horn and discipline over ambitious Saraki. He should be expelled from the party before he destroyed it. Saraki has succeeded in destabilising the APC through his in-subordinate and confrontational attitude.
“The party should make its position known and stand by its nominees for the principal offices in the Senate. APC should call the bluff of arrogant and power conscious senate president.
“The party should not condone indiscipline. It should mete out severe punishment to Saraki and his co-travellers in the Senate who belong to the ruling party”.
Another lawyer, Monday Ubani, described Saraki’s posturing as very sad.
According to him, with what has played out again in the selection of principal officers, if Saraki has his way, and if he remains as Senate President, everything he does will favour members of the Senate and not the APC.
Ubani, a former Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja branch, said Saraki’s allegiance will be to the members of the Senate, particularly those who facilitated his emergence as Senate President.
The former NBA chair said: “His (Saraki’s) ambition has put him in a quagmire and he is ready to do the evil. He will not take directive from the party but from members. Saraki will go back to PDP sooner or later.
“APC is in trouble with such a man occupying that position. His disposition will affect the executive arm of government. With such a conservative element at the helm of the National Assembly, the change APC is working for will be perverted. Nigeria is in trouble.”
